NAMING AFFIRMATIONs
Hey, naming ceremonies are for *anyone* who wants to celebrate their new name: if you are trans or non-binary and would like to mark a transition and/or name affirmation with a fabulous ceremony, please get in touch!
I am currently offering this service free of charge for ceremonies of up to an hour, within 50 miles from Liverpool (and for travel expenses only, further afield).
Let's get planning! What words would you want to be said about what your name affirmation means to you? Would there be a theme or special dress code? We could look at some new or existing symbolic actions to mark this time in your life - how about layering different coloured sand into a bottle, for example, to represent the layers of your support system? Is there anyone special who you would like to contribute in some way... maybe writing a poem or performing a song, making promises to you?
Equally... if you are trans or non-binary and would like to get some tips instead on how to put a naming affirmation ceremony together for a friend, I'm happy to support you with that!

It's not easy to explain just how meaningful and personal naming ceremonies are: they can't simply be explained as a non-religious equivalent of a Christening!
Most naming ceremonies are between 20 and 30 minutes... but there is A LOT packed in there! Each naming is all about a family and their child's uniqueness, the reasons behind the name choice, their beliefs around parenting, their hope and dreams for the future, their personal promises to their child... and bringing special people into the family as guide-parents. (These special adults are also sometimes known as mentors, guardians, odd parents, fairy godmothers, or even ‘sparents’!)
And to close the ceremony, everyone present gets to say the child's name together and welcome them into the wider community. Precious!
