Read the emotion on this dad's face! Two minutes before this photo was taken, he'd turned up at the back office in this venue, saying to his daughter, "Kyle said to come and pick something up from this room for you."
"Yes, Dad. It's me you're picking me up - I'm getting married! Come on, let's get ready to walk down the aisle!"
Two Ceremonies in One Day
Kyle and Jordan had booked me to lead their daughter Bobbie's naming. "Aw, cute", I thought: it's always lovely to be asked by a fellow celebrant! Then came the question "We're thinking of getting married at the same time... what do you think? Are you up for that?"
> TOO BLOODY RIGHT I AM!!!
No fuss budget
Neither of them wanted a fuss, they were after a down-to-earth wedding without the complicated planning. So they invited all their nearest and dearest to Bobbie's naming, asked Jordan's work colleague to make a cake (with her being totally unaware that she was, in fact, making their wedding cake), bought a beautiful bunch of flowers, ordered balloons, pizza, tables and benches. Oh... and a *cute* white dress for £35!
Spend on the important stuff!
They made sure that they'd have beautiful photos to be able to remember and booked in the lovely Jade Maguire - which turns out to be just as well, given that most people will have been taking it all in rather than thinking to take pictures! I mean, look at these reactions after I'd told the crowd no they weren't sat back down for some speeches, but instead told them, "These two say there's just one thing left to complete their family... WELCOME TO THE WEDDING OF JORDAAAAN AND KYLE!!!!"
As this is a surprise wedding, the readers will be pretty surprised too!
When we were in the planning stages, I was wondering whether there would be any readings in the wedding ceremony. (How can you do that if nobody knows you're getting married?) "Nah, Jennie and Michael will LOVE it!" they said. And they did! Mid-ceremony, I handed them a sheet of paper with some anonymous lyrics on them and Michael and Jenny delivered them with gusto: "You've already won me over in spite of me / And don't be alarmed if I fall head over feet / And don't be surprised if I love you for all that you are / I couldn't help it / It's all your fault." [Answers on a postcard....]
Secret Vows
Sorry... but I'm just not going to tell you about the promises Kyle and Jordan made to each other that day. They deserve a whole separate blog post dedicated to the pure genius of them. I know vows aren't meant to be competitive or anything... but Kyle won. Hands down.
The Bobster
But let's not forget that the day started with a gorgeous naming ceremony, with all the focus on this little one. And even though the Bobster is too young to understand everything that was going on, she's going to be able to know about all the special people who will support her throughout her life: represented in the layers of coloured sand in this bottle are family and friends, grandparents, aunties and uncles, guide parents and Mum and Dad!
Little one, may you have a long and happy life with your very creative, fun, no-nonsense and risk-taking parents!
